3.4-Litre Water-Cooled Engine

Porsche developed a completely new water-cooled engine for the fifth generation Porsche 911. The 3.4-litre, six-cylinder horizontally-opposed engine features aluminium crankcase and aluminium cylinder head, integrated dry sump lubrication, four overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder.

300 Horsepower

The 3.4-litre boxer engine delivers a maximum output of 221 kW (300 bhp) at 6,800 rpm. The maximum torque of 350 Newton metres (258 lb-ft) at 4,600 rpm. the maximum engine speed is 7,300 rpm.

Six-Speed Manual

The 911 comes as standard with a compact and light, six-speed manual gearbox. It features a dual-mass flywheel for low vibration and a hydraulic clutch for consistent performance.

Tiptronic S

The five-speed Tiptronic S was available as an option. It gives the driver the opportunity to manually shift gears from the toggle lever on the steering wheel, even if the selector lever remains in automatic mode.

Aluminium Chassis

All major suspension and chassis components as well as the two axle frames integrated in the body are made of light alloy.

Porsche Stability Management

The Porsche Stability Management system (PSM) system became an option for the 911 Carrera in model-year 2000. PSM can reduce instability by applying braking to individual wheels and, if necessary, altering engine power. The driver can disengage PSM with a dashboard switch. However, for safety, PSM will engage under braking and then disengage when the driver lifts off the brake.

Four-Piston Brakes

Following positive experience in motorsport, Porsche 911 features aluminium four-piston monobloc brake callipers. The particular advantages are fading reduced to a minimum and perfect dosage of the brakes even under extreme loads.

17-Inch Wheels

The 911 is equipped with 17-inch wheels with 205/50 ZR17 front and 255/40 ZR17 rear tyres. 18-inch “turbo look” wheels were available as an option .

How Fast is It?

With the manual transmission, the 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, and reach 200 km/h in 18.3 seconds. With the Tiptronic S, the sprint to 100 km/h takes 6.0 seconds and to 200 km/h 20.4 seconds.

Top Speed 280 km/h

The 911 Carrera Coupe with the manual transmission can reach a top speed of 280 km/h. With the Tiptronic S the top speed is 275 km/h.
