2001 Porsche 911 Turbo – 10 Fast Facts

Porsche 911 (996)

The new type 996 Porsche 911 Turbo was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1999. Here are 10 fast facts of the 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo.

2001 Porsche 911 Turbo – 10 Fast Facts

3.6-Litre Turbocharged Engine

2001 Porsche 911 Turbo is powered by a 3.6-litre turbocharged engine. Boosted by two turbochargers, it develops maximum output of 309 kW (420 bhp) at 6,000 rpm. The maximum torque of 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) is available 2,700-4,600 rpm.

6-Speed Manual

The 911 Turbo comes as standard with the six-speed manual gearbox.

Tiptronic S

The 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo was optionally available with a Tiptronic S automatic transmission. With this five-speed automatic transmission driver can also shift manually via rocker switches at the steering wheel.

Four-Wheel Drive

The 911 Turbo came with a four-wheel drive. Depending on driving conditions, up to 40 per cent of the engine power is delivered to the front wheel.

Porsche Stability Management

Another standard feature in the 996 Turbo, is the Porsche Stability Management (PSM). This system detects whether the car is following the driver’s directional commands. In an extreme situation, it can aaply the brakes of an individual wheel to help to regain stability. If this is not sufficient, PSM will intervene in the engine management and reduce engine power to the necessary level.

Sport Suspension

Compared to the Carrera, the 911 Turbo sits 10 millimetres closer to the ground. The combination of four-wheel drive, Porsche Stability Management and sport suspension, the 911 Turbo provides not just sporty driving experience but also a high level of active safety.

Performance Brakes

The braking power is provided by the monobloc four-piston fixed callipers on the front and rear axle. The cross-drilled, inner-vented brake discs have a diameter of 330 mm (13.00”). The front and rear discs have the same diameter but the front disc are a bit thicker.

Wide Rear Tyres

The muscular rear wheel arches of the 911 Turbo are 60 mm (2.6 inches) wider compared with the 911 Carrera. They are not just for the looks, but to provide enough space for the standard 18-inch light-alloy wheels with 295/30 ZR 18 rear tyres. The size of the front tyres are 225/40 ZR 18.

How Fast is It?

Is is fast? Oh yes! The 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo with the standard manual gearbox can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, and reach 200 km/h in 14.4. seconds. With the Tiptronic S the sprint to 100 km/h takes 4.8 seconds and to 200 km/h 16.1 seconds.

Over 300 km/h

The top speed of the 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo is 305 km/h (189 mph) with the manual gearbox. With the optional Triptronic S, you can reach top speed of 298 km/h (185 mph).
