2022 Porsche 911 GT3 – 10 Fast Facts

Porsche 911 (992)

Developed in close collaboration with Porsche Motorsport, the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 is the seventh generation GT3. Here are 10 fast facts about this cool sports car.

2022 Porsche 911 GT3 – 10 Fast Facts

4.0-Litre Engine

The heart of the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 is the naturally aspirated, 4.0-litre, six-cylinder engine. It is based on the racing powerplant of the 911 GT3 R. The high-revving engine delivers its maximum power 375 kW (510 PS) at 8400 rpm. The rev limiter lets the engine to rev all the way to 9000 rpm. Maximum torque is 470 Nm. Compared to the predecessor, it delivers 10 PS more power and 10 Nm more torque.

With a Six-Speed Manual…

2022 Porsche 911 GT3 can be chosen with a six-speed manual sports transmission, which offers a purist, more involved driving experience. With a short gear lever and short-travel shift action, the driving pleasure is maximised. When changing down, the auto-blip function can be optionally used to assist synchronisation of the gear wheels. This counteracts overbraking of the rear wheels, stabilises handling and reduces wear.

…Or Seven-Speed PDK

In addition to the manual, the GT3 is also available with the seven-speed PDK transmission. It permits gear changes in milliseconds without any interruption in drive to the rear wheels for optimum acceleration. As an alternative to the practical shift paddles behind the sports steering wheel, it also has a separate gate for manual gear changing. Like in motorsport, it is pulled to shift up and pushed to shift down.

Sporty Soundtrack

The standard stainless steel sports exhaust system in the GT3 ensures that the car’s performance is delivered together with a unique sound. It gives the high-revving six-cylinder naturally aspirated boxer engine a very memorable auditory experience that is guaranteed to give you goosebumps. Thanks to the electrically controlled continuously adjustable exhaust flap, the impressive sound can also be given additional nuances.

Double Wishbone Front Suspension

2022 Porsche 911 GT3 features a completely new front end suspension. The double-wishbone design is used for the first time on a Porsche street car. It lends the 911 GT3 exemplary turn-in agility in combination with higher cornering performance and greater braking stability. In other words, it makes the sports car faster and more predictable, and at the same time improves its driveability.

Porsche Active Suspension Management

The variable damping control system PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) in the 911 GT3 offers advantages both for the road and track. There are two control maps, Sport and Track. The Sport mode offers sufficient suspension comfort for long-distance driving, while the Track mode reduces body movements to a sportily firm level. The ride height of the GT3 is 20 mm lower compared to the 911 Carrera.

Rear-Axle Steering

The rear-axle steering improves the driving dynamics of the car. Up to a speed of approximately 50 km/h, it turns the rear wheels by a maximum of 2.0 degrees in the opposite direction to that of the front wheels. In contrast, at speeds above 80 km/h the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front. Between speeds of 50 and 80 km/h, the rear-axle steering responds depending on the situation.

Powerful Brake System

The powerful brake system of the 911 GT3 makes sure the car has enough stopping power. Two special air channels optimise brake cooling on the front axle. The upper channel is responsible for internal cooling of the brakes, while the lower channel makes use of the underbody air flow and cools the friction ring. On the front axle the car has aluminium monobloc fixed six piston callipers with 408 mm brake discs. The discs are now dimpled instead of cross-drilled. The result is higher material strength and more powerful braking action. At the rear axle there are 380 mm brake discs and monobloc four piston brake callipers. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system is available as an option.

Double Mixed Tyres

The front and rear axles are equipped with different wheel sizes for the first time. There are 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear, both with a centre-lock wheel nut. As standard, Porsche provides the GT3 with high-performance sports tyres, which measure 255/35 ZR 20 at the front and 315/30 ZR 21 at the rear. Track tyres, with approval for road use, are a new option for the GT3.

How Fast is It?

How fast is it? With the six-speed manual transmission, the 911 GT3 can sprint form zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and hit 200 km/h in 11.9 seconds. The PDK transmission is a even faster when making a standing start. With the PDK, the car can reach 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and 200 km/h in 10.8 seconds. Top speed is 318 km/h with the PDK and 320 km/h with the manual.
