Take a Look – 2005 Porsche Boxster Exterior
Porsche presented the second generation Porsche Boxster, known as the 987-generation, at the 2004 Paris Motor Show. Let’s take a look at the 2005 Porsche Boxster exterior.
2005 Porsche Boxster Exterior
The front of the second generation Boxster shows the close relationship with the 911 series. When viewed from the side, the larger air vents before the rear axle, the bold door sills, the larger window in the transition from the B-pillar to the roof and the newly designed, larger rims are dominant.
The Boxster’s 17-inch wheels feature a distinctive and aerodynamically engineered fivespoke design. On the Boxster S, the wheel diameter was increased to 18 inches.
Boxster is equipped with a convertible top. It requires just about 12 seconds to open or close the top. It can be operated on the move, when the driving speed is below 50 km/h (30 mph). Four distinct top colors were available; Black, Stone Grey, Cocoa Brown and Metropol Blue. A hardtop made of robust aluminum was optionally available for Boxster.
Importance of the Aerodynamics
The 2005 Porsche Boxster looks cool, but every line and every curve also plays an important role in directing airflow. Boxster’s prominent front air ducts pass generous amounts of cool air to the engine’s radiators. Then the directional spoilers channel it to cool the brakes.
Large intakes on the rear quarter panels feed even more cooling air to the flat-six engine. Air flowing over the car curves down the rear deck and applies pressure to the rear spoiler. It extends at speeds above 120 km/h (75 mph) to improve handling and high-speed stability.
Less visible, but equally important, is the smooth underbody design that that reduces lift and drag. The air flow under the car also helps to cool down the air around the gearbox.
