What is the Tyre Load Rating?
Do you know what is the tyre load rating? The tyre load rating (or tyre load index) is a numerical code, which refers to the maximum load that a single tyre can carry. You’ll might need this information when you are buying a new set of tyres.
How to Find the Tyre Load Rating?
It’s okay if you don’t know your tyre load rating. This information is easy to find, especially if you are standing next to your car. The easiest way is to check it from the sidewall of your tyre. On the sidewall you’ll find a string of numbers and letters, that look for example something like this: 235/35 ZR20 88 Y.
These markings reveal the size of the tyre (in this case 235/35 ZR20), the load rating (88) and the speed rating (Y). This information can also be found in the vehicle manual and on a sticker inside the car (or sometimes on the fuel filler flap).
When you know the load rating code, you can check from this chart below what the maximum load of your tyre is. For example load rating 88 is 560 kg. This is the maximum load that a single tyre can carry.
