Four-Seater Porsche 928-4 Prototype (1984)

Porsche 928

Porsche Museum has some unique cars in its collection. One of which is a four-seater prototype known as the Porsche 928-4. But what is this one-off prototype. Let’s take a look.

Four-Seater Prototype

The Porsche 928 was introduced in 1977. This V8-powered coupe was Porsche’s flagship model. Although otherwise perfect for everyday driving, it “only” offered a 2+2 seating arrangement. But how cool would it have been as proper four-seater? To find out, Porsche tested this idea in 1984 by creating the Porsche 928-4.

The 928-4 is a shooting brake with some unique design details. Created by the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach, the 928-4 is based on the Porsche 928 S, but is extended by 25 centimetres. It is particularly characterized by a long, raised roof profile and a more upright tailgate.

The longer wheelbase and the modifications to the B-pillar and door frame mean that passengers in the rear havew an extra 20 centimetres of legroom. Other unique features of this prototype are the projector headlights, leather interior and green tinted windows.

Porsche created this car in 1984 as a one-off prototype. It was presented to Ferry Porsche on his birthday, September 19, 1984.

Porsche 928-4 Specs

  • Body: Four-seater shooting brake

  • Displacement: 4,958 cm³
  • Power: 228 kW (310 hp)
  • Weight empty: 1,625 kg
  • Top speed: 260 km/h
