2012 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe – 10 Fast Facts
3.4-Litre Engine
2012 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe has a rear-mounted, water-cooled, 6-cylinder, 3.4-litre engine, with an aluminum engine block and cylinder heads.
350 Horsepower
Incorporating Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus, the engine develops 350 horsepower at 7400 rpm and generates maximum torque of 390 Nm (287 lb.-ft.) at 5600 rpm.
7-Speed Manual Transmission
2012 Porsche 911 is the first car that featured a 7-speed manual transmission. While the top speed is reached in sixth gear, the seventh gear provides greater efficiency and comfort for longer journeys. A gear indicator in the tachometer reminds which gear has been selected.
7-Speed PDK Transmission
The 7-speed PDK transmission is available as an option for the new 911. It provides the ability to enjoy driving in either manual or automatic modes. With the optional Sport Chrono Package, the PDK is equipped with the Launch Control system.
Sport Button
The standard Sport button makes it possible to select an even more responsive engine performance program. Pressing the Sport button changes the electronic engine mapping so it engages a sharper throttle response. If the vehicle is equipped with PDK transmission, the Sport button also selects more aggressive shift points.
Sport Exhaust
911 features a completely redesigned exhaust system. The stainless steel system comprises two fully independent exhaust tracts. Each is served by its own catalytic converter. A twin-tube sport exhaust is available as an option. At the push of a button, it produces a slightly more aggressive exhaust sound.
Sport Chrono Package
The optional Sport Chrono Package adjusts engine and transmission for high-performance driving. In addition, it includes a performance display with both digital and analog stopwatches, and the Sport Plus button. An additional display in the steering wheel and instrument cluster indicates whether the Sport button and Launch Control have been activated.
4-Piston Brakes
Powerful braking is provided by 4-piston aluminum monobloc brake calipers with 330 mm brakes discs. The standard ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) and PSM (Porsche Stability Management) systems improve directional stability when braking.
19″ Wheels
911 Carrera comes as standatd with 19-inch wheel. They are fitted with 235/40 ZR19 front and 285/35 ZR19 rear tyres.
How Fast is the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe?
With the manual transmission, the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.8 seconds. With the PDK transmission and Sport Plus, the same sprint is done in 4.6 seconds. And with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the 0-100 km/h sprint is over in 4.4 seconds. The top speed is 289 km/h (180 mph) with the manual transmission and 287 km/h (178 mph) with the PDK.
