The Porsche 914 was designed as a sports car that offered also comfort for daily driving. However, its mid-engine design, which offered excellent handling and traction characteristics, meant that there was no space for a rear seat. So the 914 is a genuine two-seater. The doors are big and wide. Inside, there is plenty of headroom and shoulder room. The Porsche 914 cockpit features two sports seats headrests. The seats slide way back, so you can stretch out just like a race driver.
The seats are sporty, but comfortable. The driver’s seat has forward and backward adjustment and four different height and tilt positions. It is therefore well suited to drivers of different heights or driving styles. The backrest of the passenger seat is firmly attached to the car’s interior. So, there is an adjustable footrest ensures that passengers of different heights remain firmly supported when driving at high speeds. The seats could be ordered with artificial leather or corduroy fabric upholstery.
The design and layout of the dashboard and instruments were designed to provide easy operation in all situations. The speedometer, with total and trip mileage odometers, as well as tachometer, are all large, round instruments with illumination. They are located in the driver’s direct field of view and have non-reflective matt black faces. The dial markings markings are matt white for easy reading and maximum visibility. The round combined instrument dial contains warning lights for oil pressure, battery charge, handbrake and fuel gauge.
All knobs are recessed into the padded dashboard, and the levers are made of flexible material. To avoid confusion, each control is marked with a symbol indicating its function. The steering column has the turn signal, high beam, windshield wiper and washer controls built right on it. So you can operate ail these vital controls without taking your hands off the steering wheel.
Fully Equipped
The Porsche 914 models came with a wide range of standard equipment designed to satisfy the needs of even the most demanding driver. These include three-point seat belt anchorage points, combined armrests and door pockets, a passenger grab handle, padded sun visors, an interior rear-view mirror with anti-glare device, a cigarette lighter with a socket for a hand lamp and two-speed windshield wipers. Heating and ventilation are separately and continuously adjustable. Both the heater output and the fresh air supply can be directed upwards or towards the feet. The fresh air flow can be enhanced with a three-speed fan.
On each door there’s a roomy pocket. In the dash, a good-sized glove box. And between the seats, a console tray. The is no storage space behind the seats, but the front and rear luggage compartments provide a total capacity of 370 litres (13.1 cu.ft.).
