2000 Porsche 911 GT3 – 10 Fast Facts

Porsche 911 (996)

Porsche introduced the 911 GT3 in 1999. This road-ready racecar followed in the footsteps of the Carrera RS models. Here are 10 fast facts about the 2000 Porsche 911 GT3.

2000 Porsche 911 GT3 – 10 Fast Facts

3.6-Litre Engine

The heart of the GT3 is a 3.6-litre, water-cooled, six-cylinder boxer engine. It is based on the aluminium boxer unit first featured in the Le Mans-winning 911 GT1.

360 Horsepower

The 3.6-litre boxer engine develops maximum output of 265 kW (360 bhp) at 7,200 rpm and provides maximum torque of 370 Newton metres (273 lb-ft) at 5,000 rpm. Maximum engine speed of the high-reving engine is 7,800 rpm.

Six-Speed Manual

The Porsche 911 GT3 comes exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox. All six transmission ratios are carefully matched to the engine speed and performance of the GT3 power unit.

Sport Suspension

Carried over from the 911 Carrera, the suspension concept has been modified to match the car’s even higher level of performance, with handling suitable for motor racing.

Stopping Power

Compared with the 911 Carrera, both the front and rear wheels come with larger, reinforced four-piston aluminium fixed callipers in monobloc construction. Brake disc diameter on the front and rear axle is 330 mm (13.0″). As a result, the GT3 offers excellent stopping power.

18-Inch Wheels

The 911 GT3 comes with 18-inch sports-design light-alloy wheels. Tyres measure 225/40 ZR 18 on the front axle and 285/30 ZR 18 on the rear axle.

Lightweight Sports Car

With lightweight materials, Porsche kept the car’s weight in control. The unladen weight of the 911 GT3 is just 1,350 kg.

Optional Clubsport Package

The 911 GT3 was also available as a Clubsport version. It was specially developed for track driving and motorsport events. The most significant feature of the Clubsport version is the roll cage bolted on to the body. It also included the rear axle spring strut supports which provide extra stability.

How Fast is It?

The 2000 Porsche 911 GT3 can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, and to 200 km/h in 15.8 seconds. So the 911 GT3 is pretty fast.

Top Speed over 300 km/h

Top speed of the Porsche 911 GT3 is 302 km/h (187 mph)
