Porsche 918 Spyder Concept (2010)
In March 2010 at the Geneva Motor Show, Porsche presented a completely new concept car. Not only it looked amazing, it also presented a very intersting hybrid powertrain. This car was the Porsche 918 Spyder concept.

The concept car combined high-tech racing technology and electromobility in a dazzling spectrum of capabilities. The Porsche 918 Spyder concept combined a high-performance internal combustion engine with electric drives at the rear and front axles. This made it possible to achieve extraordinary driving performance and excellent efficiency. The prototype was the first plug-in hybrid from Porsche to offer a glimpse of the charging technology of the future.
The monocoque, consisting of carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP), reduced the car’s weight and delivered remarkable rigidity and precision. On the one hand, the 918 Spyder was able to glide almost noiselessly through the city without local emissions. On the other hand, it offered the driving performance of a super sports car.
Perhaps needless to say that the response from the public was overwhelmingly positive. So it was pretty easy decision. The board decided to go ahead with series development that same year. The project team needed only three years of development time to complete the first series 918. The production car was officially presented at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in autumn 2013.
